Since 2005, OEP has been empowering middle school girls through the AEGIS program. Teams of four middle school girls and their teacher spend 3 days in June building the Energy Bike. Girls gain confidence in science and technology as they follow schematics and complete all the wiring and trouble shooting to complete the bike. Students also learn to teach classroom lessons from OEP’s Energy Bike curriculum. They return to their school district as the “Energy Bike Experts” training other teachers how to use the bike, conducting classroom programs for their peers, and hosting outreach events in their community.

The AEGIS program is sponsored by Dayton Power & Light and NOPEC and is open to middle schools in their respective service territories.  For more information on the AEGIS program, contact Shauni Nix.
