“Activating and Energizing Girls in Science”
Location: Hilton Garden Inn Dayton/Beavercreek
3520 Pentagon Park Blvd.
Beavercreek, OH 45431
Participants: 5 Middle Schools in the DP&L Service Territory
Each school to include: 1 teacher
4 students (grades 6-8)
1 female adult/parent chaperone if male teacher
Accommodations: 2 rooms per school (includes swimming pool access)
All meals are provided.
Arrival date and time: June 9, 2020 TBD a.m.
Departure date and time: June 10, 2020 TBD p.m.
How will I be considered to participate?
Your district will be submitted as an interested district to DP&L.
What is the deadline to apply for participation?
How are the school districts selected?
DP&L is given the applications of interested districts and selects five to participate.
When will I be notified if I am selected as a participating district?
On or before April 30.
How many middle school girls may participate from my district?
Four girls are to be selected from grades 6 – 8 (2020-21 school year)
What is the cost of the program?
Everything during the three days of the program is completely paid in full. Students may bring a small amount of spending money in the event of a brief shopping excursion during free time.
Do I need to bring a chaperone?
If you are a male teacher, it is mandatory that an adult female chaperone attends with you. If you are a female teacher, it is optional to bring an additional adult chaperone.
What will be the housing arrangements?
Every school will be given two hotel rooms, each room having two double beds.
When do I need to send a list of the participating students’ names?
OEP will need to receive the individual student names by May 15.
Is there a dress code for the conference?
Yes, we ask that each school require their students to adhere to their school’s dress code. We ask the girls to bring an appropriate ‘nice outfit’ for the visit to DP&L’s Headquarters.
What will be the teacher’s role during the conference?
The teacher is a valuable member of the team and is expected to participate, encourage and empower the girls on their team.
Can the girls bring their phone and/or electronic items?
We ask there be no use of electronic items during the scheduled events. We will provide music during the building of the bike. We want full participation of everyone attending.
Is there a teacher stipend?
Yes, there is a $250 stipend received when teachers complete required documentation. Documentation details will be provided at the summer program and is due April 15, 2021.
How do I get the Energy Bike back to my school district?
You will need to have made prior arrangement to have the Energy Bike transported back to your school.
